History
I have always been an outdoor enthusiast my entire life. All this viral video started out with a company I formed in 2005 called Camo 4x4, Inc.! Camo 4x4, Inc. was a camouflaging business that was created to cover/ wrap vehicles in a vinyl camouflage wrap produced by Camo Clad. The business ran well until 2007 when the US economy started to tank and the business was losing money. I made the executive decision to close the business because the long hours where not worth the profit. During these two years, I met some great people and started filming my hunts and 4x4 adventures just for fun. This is how my nickname became Camo4x4s.
The real problem with Camo 4x4, Inc. was that it didn't have a good way of advertising that fit the budget and it was all word of mouth. I posted a deer hunting video on Youtube in 2006 to share with some hunting friends and saw it got 10's of thousands of views. A light bulb clicked on in my head and I realized this would be a great free way to advertise for my camo business. I started editing with Sony Vegas and including my original Camo 4x4, Inc. logo at the end of the videos but it was to late. I was tired of loosing personal money on something that was failing due to economic circumstances outside my control. I decided to close my camouflaging business. To this day, I still have a few of my first videos with my original Camo 4x4, Inc. advertisement in them on Youtube.
I started posting videos on Youtube regularly in 2007. Later that year, I was asked by the Youtube Partner program to become a Partner and receive income for my videos. Who in their right mind would turn this down? Evidently though, I was asked to become a Partner before you could even apply for a partnership. It was part of a trial run program at Youtube and only a few hundred people where hand picked including me out of hundreds of thousands of users. This was the greatest stepping-stone in my new hobby. I do say hobby because I work a full time job.
What is a Youtube Partnership though? This is a Partnership formed between the person posting videos and Youtube by a written contract that guarantees the person posting videos will only upload videos that are original content. Original content means that you have to create your content and cannot borrow music or video clips that are copyrighted unless you have permission.
I started off filming in standard definition but switched to true high definition 2 years ago in 2008. In 2009, I switched over to a Mac and started editing in Final Cut Pro Studio 2. In 2010, I purchased Adobe CS4, which opened the door for graphic animations and intros in the videos. Now, I am on top of my game and a better videographer, editor, producer, and executive producer than ever. I commonly joke referring to myself as being the Survivor Man of the Great Outdoors. I am a one-man show and film everything on my own and act in my own videos. I seldom have someone film for me, if I do it is an inexperienced friend with little camera experience. I would love to find someone who is an experienced videographer to help me produce at a low cost but it hasn't happened yet.
Other achievements: In 2009, I was contacted by the Discovery channel. The Discovery channel was looking for short clips for their show Destroyed in Seconds. I did not have anything to send them though. I was contacted by gowarn.com and they wanted to list me on their links page, which was and still is a big deal (
http://www.gowarn.com/warn-winches/links.aspx). In 2010, I picked up Cooper Calls as my first sponsor (
www.coopercalls.com). Shortly after, I picked up East Carolina Power Sports as my 2nd sponsor (
www.ncpowersports.com).
Over the 3+ past years, I have achieved the following rewards on Youtube that are a big deal to most Youtubers.
